Noam Chomsky’s incisive commentary often sheds light on geopolitical hypocrisies.
In this 2002 interview with Evan Solomon on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s programme, ‘Hot Type,’ the now-95-year-old linguist, philosopher and activist argued that if the United States can justify bombing Afghanistan to end the Taliban’s brutality, the US should bomb Israel to end its decades-long occupation of Palestinian territories. Instead, the US has long supported the Israeli settler-colonial project through diplomatic, financial and military means.
Later in this interview, Chomsky remarked ‘When they do it, it’s terrorism. When we do it, it’s counter-terrorism.’
Why do you think this double standard exists? Let us know in the comments.
