Is Spotify getting their money’s worth for The Joe Rogan Experience? After once again hosting Jordan Peterson on his Podcast, Spotify scrambled to clarify its COVID misinformation policies (which are so specific as to be meaningless) and Rogan posted an IG video apology stating that he’ll do more “both sides” by bringing on people who actually know what they’re talking about. We’re not holding our breath.
On Peterson’s episode of the podcast, Rogan and Peterson discussed race, climate change, and more very deep thoughtsTM. Peterson claimed that neither he(a thoroughly white man) or Rogan (‘mostly Italian’) were actually white, and talked about how the only people who are “actually” Black are those who are “African, from the darkest place where they’re not wearing any clothes all day, and they’ve developed all that melanin to protect themselves from the sun, you know, “even the term Black is weird.” Sure, Joe.
They then went on to wax poetically about manmade climate change, and how it’s not really clear if it’s real. This indeed clarified just how little Rogan cares about facts and science, and how much doubt he’s willing to sow about something so universally agreed upon..
In the wake of these comments, Neil Young demanded that either Rogan be kicked off Spotify or he would remove his own music. Young left the platform a few days later, with Joni Mitchell also removing her music in solidarity. Spotify said this week that it is “testing ways" to warn people about disinformation.
