Cashier and part-time artist Christopher Cross (Edward G. Robinson)retires from his job as a salesman at a clothing store and is presented with a gold watch as gratitude for his years of service. Walking home, he becomes smitten with the beautiful Kitty March (Joan Bennett) as he rescues her on the street. Kitty plays along with Cross' feelings but she's really only interested in Johnny (Dan Duryea), a low life criminal. When Kitty and Johnny discover that art dealers are actually interested in Chris' work, they con him into letting Kitty take credit for the paintings. Cross allows it because he is in love with Kitty, but his love will only let her get away with so much. Be sure and watch the entire movie to find out what happens!
