On July 4 1983, Deborah Manning attended a celebration at her parents' home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was discovered on County Road 249 that night with over 20 stab wounds, and her murder is unsolved to this day.

Nearly 40 years later, a groundbreaking new docu-series sets out to tell Deborah’s story. During production, The Local Whisper discovered new information that the Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Department found viable enough to take a fresh look into Deborah Manning’s murder.

“In rural America, getting folks in these tight-knit, small town communities can be the hardest part in investigating many cold cases.” says Regan Ernst, the journalist behind The Local Whisper. “By entering these communities, The Local Whisper attempts to find the truth between the never-ending rumors, and provide insight into how these rumors are created, how these cases are investigated, and how those left behind struggle with lingering questions and the lack of justice.”
